What does a Midlands Simon Sponsored Event Look Like?
WIll Faulkner, Midlands 103fm, host of a Song for Simon contest interviews Deane James winner of the inagural Song for Simon competition 2013.
A Song for Simon is Midlands Simon Community’s annual song writing contest and the inaugural event took place in the Sheraton Athlone on 2nd February 2013. This yearly event is the perfect opportunity for both budding artists and seasoned professionals to put original music into the public domain, any style, any genre and any age. How it works is that individuals/ groups submit original pieces of music to Midlands Simon. A shortlist of ten finalists is selected to perform their music live on stage in the Sheraton hotel Athlone and 4 music related judges on the night select the winning act. In addition, we seek to attract well-known headline act to add atmosphere and a sense of occasion to the event. In February our headline act was Mickey Joe Harte, making it a unique night to remember.
Media Coverage was significant with many national and local media covering the event. Song for Simon boasts an impressive prize package sponsored by companies in the Midlands and beyond. On offer to the overall winner:
