Midlands Simon Community’s links with schools and colleges is very strong and we work with students in primary, secondary and third level education. We have a variety of tools, activity packs, educational packs and projects that students can participate in, building their awareness of the causes of homelessness and in many cases offering students opportunities to be actively involved in tackling homelessness.
Keeping students informed about the causes of homelessness can often help in preventing homelessness in the first place. It can help students become involved in the solution to homelessness, building social awareness and contributing to good citizenship.
The work we do with students can often offer them an insight into a career in social care or encourage them to volunteer for Midlands Simon – or other charities, when they turn 18 years of age. Students often organise fundraising events in their schools or colleges, or participate in fundraising events such as the Sing for Simon Appeal, Bag Packing, etc.
A speaker from Midlands Simon Community would be delighted to visit your school or college, to speak to students and work with individual classes in whatever way is most appropriate for the school.
